What is Play Tennis 2002?
Play Tennis is a three-month campaign from
April 13th to July 13th which involves clubs, parks and ITI centres offering a free day's tennis on a selected day in this period. It's all about giving people the chance to play tennis and making the sport more accessible.

How many clubs/centres are involved?
This year, 1030 venues have signed up to Play Tennis and between them, are offering 1250 free days of tennis as some are running more than one day

How many people will be taking part?
We expect over 80,000 people to take part

Will it cost me anything to participate in a Play Tennis day?
No, but you may need to pay for refreshments.

Where is my nearest Play Tennis Venue?
Cocks and Hens Lawn Tennis Club, Clerk Maxwell Road, off Madingley Road, Cambridge CB3 0RU, Look at their website or you can ring the hotline to find out more. The day is Saturday; the time is 2 - 4 pm.

Do I need to pre-register?

No, but you will get a better tea if you do, by clicking on Ring Me and typing in your telephone number

Do I need a racquet?
Yes.

What can I wear?
You can wear any clothing you like, but shoes must not have spikes or ridges. Please wear conventional tennis shoes as some shoes can ruin the courts

Does it matter if I have not played before?
Not at all. Play Tennis is for kids and adults of all abilities

Can the club arrange coaching and playing sessions for all standards?
Yes. Cocks and Hens Lawn Tennis Club in Cambridge is particularly keen on welcoming and encouraging players who because of work or family commitments have not played much for the last few years.

Is there an age limit?
Play Tennis is for everyone regardless of his or her age. However, do please check with the club if you are taking a child under the age of six

Can I take part in Play Tennis days at more than one club?
Yes, as many as you like

How can I play again after Play Tennis 2002?
We actively encourage you to either ring your local club / centre, or contact your local county development officer who will let you know about playing opportunities.

Cocks and Hens Lawn Tennis Club, Cambridge  welcomes prospective members to the club any Saturday afternoon. You may play up to three times without being a member. Just turn up between 2 - 4 pm

Is Sport Relief a part of Play Tennis?
Yes. All clubs have been sent information packs and have been encouraged to undertake some fundraising activity. For more on Sport Relief see www.LTA.org.uk/sportrelief
